One of the inages donated to Metal by Eric Shenton. Here are the Orders of the Day issued by the directors of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway Company on the new Railway’s opening day. The directors are to meet at Crown Street, and each will take charge of a particular train: the eight locomotives that will pull these trains, the colour of flag associated and the relevant director are all listed. A gun will be fired to start the procession, which will be led by the Northumbrian. The locomotives will stop at Parkside to take in water, and the passengers are expressly ordered not to leave their coaches: a directive that was violated by William Huskisson with fatal results. At Manchester they will all disembark and receive refreshments at the station warehouses. Then they will board their trains once more, each in the same train as before: the importance of tickets is stressed
