Here we see a close-up of the memorial plaque dedicated to William Huskisson. Note the fulsome tone: “the pride of his talents”, “an illustrious statesman”, Liverpool’s “most honoured representative”: a far cry from most similar memorials today, which simply give the personal details of the deceased as well as a brief message of condolence
