WE LIVED IN MACAULAY STREET AND AT THE BACK OF OUR HOUSES THERE WAS A THIN PIECE OF LAND THAT RAN THE LENGTH OF THE STREET MY FATHER WORKED ON THE RAILWAY SO HE COULD RENT IT, WE WOULD COME OUT OF OUR BACK DOOR INTO THE BACK ENTRY THEN THROUGH A GATE IN THE FENCE ONTO AS WE CALLED IT THE GARDEN THERE WAS A BIG DROP BECAUSE THE GOODS TRAINS RAN PASSED AND ALSO OF A WEEK END PASSENGER TRAINS WHERE SHUNTED THERE AND THE CLEANERS CAME AND CLEANED THEM I AM ALMOST SURE I CAN REMEMBER THE FLYING SCOTSMAN BEING CLEANED . THE GOODS TRAINS USE TO SHUNT THROUGH THE NIGHT BUT BEING BORN THERE WE WHERE USE TO THE NOISE AND TOOK NO NOTICE.
